Dbrand Unveils Switch 2 Joy-Con Grips to Prevent Accidental Detachment

After acknowledging its initial "spectacularly terrible response" to Joy-Con grip detachment issues with the Killswitch Nintendo Switch 2 case, Dbrand has positive updates. The company states its redesigned Joy-Con grips resolve the problem and are ready for mass production.
Dbrand had previously committed to replacing the grips for all customers. Now, it's confirmed the replacements will feature the complete redesign, not just a refined version of the original. A video from Dbrand demonstrates the updated grips securely holding the Joy-Con, preventing detachment.
Beyond the grip redesign—dubbed Joy-Lock—Dbrand will also ship silicone friction pads. These pads are for the Killswitch dock adapter, addressing "the issue of one-handed undocking" and ensuring the adapter stays "snugly seated" on the Nintendo dock.
Dbrand plans to share a production schedule by early next week, detailing when customers can claim their free Joy-Lock replacements and expected shipping dates. All new production and pending orders will include the Joy-Lock Grips and come with the silicone friction pads pre-installed on the Dock Adapter.

- Dbrand admits it had a ‘spectacularly terrible response’ to Killswitch Joy-Con grip detachment complaints
The issue emerged in June when some users of the original Killswitch case discovered that holding the console primarily by a Joy-Con could cause the controller to detach, potentially dropping the console—a significant risk for a new Nintendo device.
Dbrand's initial lengthy post argued that "nobody routinely holds their Switch 2 like this," suggesting detachment only occurred under very specific handling. This response drew comparisons to Steve Jobs' infamous suggestion for iPhone 4 users to "just avoid holding it that way" during antenna gate.
The company later issued a full apology, stating, "you should be allowed to hold it however the fuck you want, without detachment occurring." It then outlined its work on two potential fixes: a minor tweak to the original grip and the more substantial redesign now being implemented.
