Arduino VENTUNO Q Unleashes 40 TOPS for Edge AI Breakthrough
On the eve of Embedded World, the globally renowned open-source hardware platform Arduino made a major announcement: the official launch of its latest single-board computer — the Arduino VENTUNO Q. Named for the Italian word meaning "21," this board not only celebrates the 21st anniversary of the Arduino Foundation but also heralds the arrival of a high-computing era for edge AI and robotics.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Dragonwing: A "Muscle Car" Engineered for Generative AI
A departure from previous microcontrollers, the VENTUNO Q boasts a powerful dual-core architecture. Its main processing core is the Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ-8275 processor , which features an NPU delivering up to 40 TOPS of AI acceleration. Paired with a massive 16GB of memory, this hardware enables local, fully offline execution of large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs).
To ensure precise robotic motion control, Qualcomm also integrated a dedicated STM32H5 microcontroller onto the board. This co-processor handles low-latency motor drive tasks, enabling seamless collaboration between the system's "brain" and "cerebellum."
From Smart Mirrors to Service Robots: A Platform for Endless Applications
Leveraging the formidable computing power of the VENTUNO Q , developers can rapidly prototype applications that were once difficult to achieve:
Interactive Terminals: Build tourist kiosks with offline voice assistants or gesture-aware smart care terminals.
Embodied AI: Create service robots with visual SLAM navigation that can recognize and follow their owners.
Industrial Inspection: Develop automated edge systems using local AI vision to detect minute product defects.
A Unified Ecosystem: Ending Development Fragmentation
To free developers from complex setup hurdles, Arduino introduced Arduino App Lab. This unified development environment supports classic Arduino sketches while also running Python scripts seamlessly. The system runs on Ubuntu and Debian with upstream kernel support, ensuring smooth integration with the broader open-source software ecosystem.
Furthermore, the VENTUNO Q offers extensive expandability, with native support for CAN-FD, ROS 2, and Raspberry Pi HAT hardware standards. This single-board computer, described as "designed for machines in motion," is slated for an official release in the second quarter of this year.
By combining the user-friendly ethos of Arduino with the cutting-edge compute of Qualcomm , the final barriers to edge AI adoption may finally fall. Whether for education, research, or industrial prototyping, this "Number 21" board is poised to become a maker's most powerful tool in 2026.
