Nothing kills a group dinner vibe more than skipping drinks to save money, only to end up covering your friends' espresso martinis when everyone decides to split the bill evenly. You don’t want to seem cheap and make the whole table wait while you recalculate. Apple has now introduced a solution at WWDC 2026.
With the new feature, just point your iPhone camera at a receipt. Siri mode in the Camera app makes each item selectable, so you can track who ordered what and send separate Apple Cash payment requests based on what each person actually had. This should make bill splitting feel less awkward and time-consuming.
“If you’re grabbing a bite with friends and point your iPhone at the bill, then [you can] select what you ordered to split the tab with Apple Cash,” said Apple VP of Software Sebastien Marineau-Mes during Apple’s presentation.
Bill-splitting tools like SplitWise or Tab already existed, but they never really caught on—at least in my experience, no one has ever offered to use one. Since Apple’s payment features live inside native apps like iMessage, sending a payment request through an app people already use feels much more natural, without requiring them to download anything extra.
You might also use another similar Siri in Camera feature while dining out: instead of scanning the bill, you can point it at your food to see estimated nutrition info.
