Two years after promising but failing to ship a smarter Siri, Apple unveiled its overhauled AI‑powered assistant at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) on Monday. The Siri AI revamp will be available in beta later this year.
The idea behind the new “Siri AI” is to transform the voice‑controlled assistant into an AI companion capable of much more. The new assistant will launch alongside a dedicated Siri app.
The new Siri can draw on current world knowledge to ground its answers. It can also access information on a user’s device and respond based on what is displayed on their screen.
Apple is turning Siri into a full‑fledged conversational AI chatbot to compete with popular platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. This update marks a major shift for Siri, which has until now been known as a voice assistant.
When users ask for information, Siri will display text cards with results, such as web content or details from text messages.
Siri has also been redesigned for modern iPhones, now living in the Dynamic Island. Currently, triggering Siri makes the sides of the phone’s screen glow. With the updated Siri, a new animation appears in the Dynamic Island instead.

The new “Write with Siri” option lets users get help composing text. When you write with Siri in Mail and Messages, the assistant reflects how you usually communicate with a particular colleague or friend. For example, if you normally send your manager quick, direct bulletins, that’s what you’ll get when drafting an email with Siri.
You can swipe down from the Dynamic Island to search or start a typed conversation with Siri, say “Hey Siri,” or use the side button to get an in‑depth answer.
Users can ask Siri to perform more complex tasks, like writing messages, by giving it specific information and topics to cover. Siri will pull in information from the web, past emails, the user’s calendar, contacts, and more.
Apple also says Siri offers a brand‑new voice experience, with customizable speaking pace and expressiveness. Additionally, system‑wide dictation has been updated for greater accuracy, capturing everything from spelling to punctuation and capitalization more precisely.
With Siri AI, you can ask for a detailed plan, go back and forth, create brainstorming sessions, get feedback on a document, and more.
On macOS, you can access Siri from anywhere, as Apple is integrating the assistant into Spotlight, which can now also answer questions. On watchOS, users can ask questions and take actions directly from their watch.
