Taobao and Tmall have officially rolled out a new AI-powered fake image detection model to combat a growing issue: some buyers are using AI technology to fabricate images of damaged or stained products to fraudulently claim refunds. This new feature is designed to safeguard merchants' legitimate rights and reduce losses stemming from falsified after-sales evidence. As e-commerce continues to expand, there has been a noticeable rise in after-sales fraud involving AI-generated images. Some users employ software editing or AI tools to create counterfeit photos of product damage or stains in an attempt to secure illegitimate refunds. This misconduct not only harms merchant interests but also disrupts the platform's normal operations. To tackle this challenge, Taobao and Tmall have implemented the latest AI image detection technology from Alibaba Security, building a comprehensive system for identifying fraudulent imagery.
This AI fake image identification model boasts robust detection capabilities, accurately differentiating between purely AI-generated images, edited authentic photos, and falsified evidence bearing software watermarks. In practice, merchants can conveniently report suspected fake images via the Qian Niu Wang Wang chat interface. The platform will then issue direct dispute rulings based on the AI's assessment and send alerts to merchants, ensuring they are protected from further losses due to bogus refund claims.
Currently, this functionality is being prioritized for merchants with a rating of 4.8 and above, with plans to gradually extend it to more sellers in the future. This initiative aims to help optimize the overall e-commerce business environment. Through this technological measure, Taobao and Tmall seek to effectively deter the forgery of after-sales evidence, thereby fostering a more secure and trustworthy marketplace for merchants.
