Agile Robots Forges New Partnership with Google DeepMind

Agile Robots has forged a partnership with Google DeepMind to co-develop advanced robotic systems, joining a growing roster of robotics firms collaborating with the AI research lab.
Munich-based Agile Robots announced a strategic research alliance with Google DeepMind this Tuesday. The collaboration will see Agile Robots integrate Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics foundation models into its systems. In turn, the operational data gathered by these robots will be utilized to refine and enhance the core Gemini AI models.
Together, the companies will test, fine-tune, and deploy robots powered by Gemini foundation models for industrial applications. Target sectors include electronics manufacturing, automotive, data centers, and logistics.
"With over 20,000 robotics solutions deployed globally, Agile Robots has demonstrated scalable intelligent automation," said Zhaopeng Chen, co-founder and CEO of Agile Robots, in the official announcement. "The next major frontier is autonomous, intelligent production systems capable of transforming entire industries. Incorporating Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics models into our solutions places us at the forefront of this rapidly expanding market."
A company spokesperson confirmed the agreement is long-term but did not disclose further specifics regarding its duration or financial terms.
Founded in 2018, Agile Robots has secured more than $270 million in venture capital. Notable investors include the SoftBank Vision Fund, Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi, and Midas Group.
Agile Robots is the latest robotics hardware manufacturer to partner with Google DeepMind for technological advancement.
Earlier this year, Hyundai-owned Boston Dynamics—creator of the renowned Spot robot—announced a similar partnership. The collaboration aims to leverage Google DeepMind's AI foundation models in developing its next-generation humanoid robot, Atlas. Google previously owned Boston Dynamics from 2013 to 2017.
Robotics partnerships have gained significant momentum this year. In early March, German startup Neura Robotics announced a deal with Qualcomm. The agreement involves using Qualcomm's recently launched IQ10 processor series, engineered for mobile and humanoid robots, as a reference design for Neura's future products.
Given the immense complexity of robotics—encompassing both hardware and software—such collaborations are highly strategic. As the industry pushes toward fully autonomous operation, it is logical for companies with specialized strengths, be it in hardware, dexterity, or AI software, to join forces with partners possessing complementary expertise.
With many industry leaders, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, identifying physical AI as the next major frontier for the AI market, these types of partnerships are not only likely to persist but to accelerate in the coming years.
