At the 2026 China Online Media Forum, Wang Xingxing, founder and CEO of Unitree Robotics, delivered a keynote speech titled "When Robots Go Viral," offering a precise definition of the "tipping point" for embodied intelligence.

He stated that the "ChatGPT moment" for this field will arrive when a robot, upon entering an unfamiliar environment, can complete 80% to 90% of tasks based solely on voice commands. While this capability is not yet fully realized, Wang predicts it will be achieved within the next two to three years. Some Silicon Valley experts are even more optimistic, forecasting a timeline as short as 18 months.

Movement Is the Foundation of Work: The Core Philosophy of Unitree Robotics

Discussing the development path for humanoid robots, Wang Xingxing outlined a core strategy of "advancing movement and task execution in parallel." He emphasized that robust mobility is the essential prerequisite for robots to perform practical work effectively.

Only when a humanoid robot possesses a rich repertoire of limb movements and can logically sequence these basic actions does it truly acquire the capability to "work." This evolution from internal competence to external utility is transforming robots from laboratory prototypes into viable contributors in the real world.

The Dawn of a Tech Revolution: A Major Breakthrough Is Imminent

Wang Xingxing expressed strong optimism about recent technological advances, predicting that a significant breakthrough in embodied intelligence is inevitable within this year or the next. This outlook is supported by notable industry progress in areas like tactile perception for dexterous hands and dual-arm collaborative package handling.

As algorithms improve at understanding complex scenarios, humanoid robots are rapidly moving beyond pre-programmed routines, accelerating toward the key objectives of generalization and true intelligence.
