U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media on September 19 that he plans to form a dedicated "artificial intelligence team."
Trump indicated he would soon appoint an "administrator" for AI affairs to lead this initiative. He described artificial intelligence as the next industrial revolution or internet wave, predicting it could account for 25% of U.S. GDP and wield greater influence than previous technological shifts.
Condemning Democrats Who "Attempt to Destroy AI"
In his post, Trump criticized radical Democrats for trying to "destroy artificial intelligence," stating, "We will never hinder or stifle this remarkable industry in any way. Instead, we will cherish it, support it, and protect its growth." He emphasized that his administration would actively promote, rather than suppress, the development of AI.
He also announced that the U.S. would leverage existing criminal and civil justice systems to strictly penalize illegal activities involving artificial intelligence.
According to IT Home, Trump previously called NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang at an industry summit and defended AI during a hands-free call. He dismissed AI safety concerns as a "scam," telling Huang: "Robots won't take over, AI won't rule other parts of the world. This whole thing is a scam."
