In its IPO S-1 filing submitted Wednesday, SpaceX officially listed the "alternative" AI features brought in through its acquisition of xAI and its subsidiary Grok as key risk factors.
The document notes that features like Grok's NSFW mode and the AI anime companion "Ani" are less constrained and more aggressive than standard offerings, carrying a "higher risk" of generating potentially explicit content, non-consensual or exploitative images, and intellectual property infringement, along with the potential for serious reputational harm.
SpaceX is currently facing multiple U.S. government investigations, inquiries, and lawsuits related to Grok's image generation and editing capabilities. The central issue is that the AI tool has been used to create explicit content involving children in sexualized scenarios without consent. Although Elon Musk previously denied these allegations publicly, xAI restricted image generation features to paid users in January following global backlash.
