Alibaba Qwen has officially launched its "Table Agent" feature. This tool enables users to create, query, and perform in-depth edits on Excel files through simple natural language conversations. It represents a significant evolution for large AI models, shifting from merely "providing text answers" to "delivering actionable results."

The "Table Agent" simplifies the traditionally complex process of working with spreadsheets. Its core functionality operates across three key areas:
Effortless Information-to-Table Conversion: Users can simply issue a command, like "compile the latest list of value-added tax preferential policies." Qwen will then automatically search for the relevant information online and format it into a downloadable, standard Excel file.
Content Summarization Through Multi-Turn Dialogue: The system understands conversational context. After discussing topics like travel itineraries or study plans, a single prompt can summarize the entire conversation into a structured table with columns for date, budget, notes, and more.
Advanced Multimodal Recognition: It accepts uploads of PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and even photos of handwritten schedules or paper reports. Qwen accurately extracts text and data from these files to reconstruct them in Excel format. It also executes instructions on existing tables, such as "center align this column" or "rank by sales revenue."
Technical Principles: Independent Sandboxes and Intelligent Planning
Technically, Qwen decomposes complex user requests into a chain of actions executed by an Agent. The system runs code within an isolated sandbox environment, generating professional files complete with real formulas, complex formatting, and rigorous data logic.
