Opera adds its Aria AI assistant to Opera Mini browser
Norway's own Opera, the browser company, has just announced that it's rolling out its AI assistant, Aria, to Opera Mini users on Android. This is fantastic news for folks with less powerful devices and those watching their data usage, as they'll now have access to enhanced AI capabilities.
Aria AI isn't just a pretty face; it's a powerhouse that can keep you updated with the latest news, dive deep into any topic you're curious about, and even conjure up images out of thin air. Opera smartly blends models from both OpenAI and Google to ensure you get the most accurate and helpful responses.
“AI is quickly becoming a staple in our daily internet adventures – adding Aria to Opera Mini felt like the next logical step for our most popular browser. We're thrilled to see how Aria can enrich the everyday features our users depend on,” said Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, in a statement that really captures the excitement around this update.
Since its debut back in 2005, Opera Mini has been all about helping users save data while they browse. And guess what? Even with Aria onboard, Opera promises that the app won't balloon in size, keeping those data savings intact.
Over the years, Opera has teamed up with local telcos in Africa to provide free data to Opera Mini users. However, they had to pull the plug on their free data program in Kenya last year due to regulatory changes that put a stop to ads on browser bookmark tiles.
Opera Mini isn't just any app; it boasts over a billion downloads on Android and serves more than 100 million users around the globe. And this year alone, according to Appfigures, it's seen 7.1 million downloads worldwide. That's some serious reach!
But Opera isn't stopping at just adding Aria.
