OpenAI's Sora generates 600 videos a minute worldwide: Top 5 cities may surprise you

Video creation is still a frontier for generative AI, and OpenAI is at the forefront with its Sora AI video generator. Launched last month during the 12 days of OpenAI, Sora has created a stir with its incredibly realistic output quality.
On Wednesday, OpenAI revealed to ZDNET that Sora is generating 10 videos per second globally, which means 600 videos are being created every minute. The top five cities embracing Sora are Seoul, New York City, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Singapore, ranked from highest to lowest adoption.
Creating a video with Sora is as simple as providing a prompt or using an existing asset from your gallery, like an image or video. You can also tweak the video's aspect ratio, duration, and choose from various presets to spark your creativity.
Aside from video creation, OpenAI highlighted that Sora's remixing feature is the second-fastest growing tool. This feature lets users add, remove, or edit objects in an existing video using a text prompt, as demonstrated in the video below. Users can also adjust the intensity of the remix, allowing them to preserve as much or as little of the original video's essence as they wish.
Sora also includes other editing tools like re-cut, which allows users to trim and extend clips, and blend, which smoothly transitions elements from one video to another. These features are incredibly useful for content creators and professionals looking to produce b-roll, marketing videos, and other clips.
Both ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can use Sora, though with different limitations. With a ChatGPT Plus subscription at $20 per month, users can create up to 50 videos, each up to 720p resolution and five seconds long. While the cost might seem high, subscribers also get early and enhanced access to OpenAI's latest features, including Advanced Voice, o1 with Canvas, o3-mini, and DALL-E 3.
The ChatGPT Pro subscription, priced at $200 per month, offers everything in ChatGPT Plus but on a larger scale, plus access to o1 pro. Currently, Sora is not available for ChatGPT Free, Enterprise, or Edu accounts. If you're interested in trying Sora without a long-term commitment to ChatGPT Plus, you can subscribe for a month and then cancel.
