OpenAI has launched a dedicated investigation team following user reports of irregular Codex quota usage. Paid ChatGPT subscribers report a sharp decline in weekly quotas, with balances dropping from 96% to zero rapidly, even during periods of minimal activity.
Codex product manager Tibo Sottiaux addressed the issue, confirming that an emergency response team began reviewing backend logs last Sunday. To mitigate user impact, OpenAI executed a second global quota reset. A previous reset on June 27 failed to fully resolve the problem, and engineers are currently working to identify the root cause.
This quota anomaly has disrupted workflows for developers and paid subscribers. It remains unclear whether OpenAI will offer compensation for lost quotas or provide a timeline for system stabilization.
