OpenAI Acquires Talent from AI Recommendation Startup Crossing Minds

Crossing Minds, a startup specializing in AI-driven recommendation systems for e-commerce, announced Thursday that its team is transitioning to OpenAI.
Supported by investors including Index Ventures, Shopify, Plug and Play, and Radical Ventures, the startup secured over $13.5 million in funding across several rounds, per Crunchbase data.
Crossing Minds focused on enhancing personalization for e-commerce platforms by analyzing customer behavior data to deliver tailored shopping insights while prioritizing privacy.
“Joining OpenAI aligns our expertise and values with a mission we admire: advancing artificial general intelligence for the benefit of humanity. We’re eager to contribute our skills and enthusiasm to a team shaping AI’s future,” the co-founders shared in a statement on the company’s website.
Co-founder Alexandre Robicquet updated his LinkedIn profile to reflect his new role at OpenAI, focusing on research, post-training, and agents. It remains unclear whether the entire Crossing Minds team is making the move.
Crossing Minds’ website now states it will no longer accept new clients. According to its archived “About” page, the company previously served clients like Intuit, Anthropic, Udacity, and Chanel.
AI-powered tools are transforming the shopping experience. Companies like Google and Perplexity have introduced AI-driven recommendation features, while startups such as Daydream have attracted significant funding to develop AI shopping assistants.
