Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Begin April 24 at $449.99

Nintendo has confirmed April 24 as the new preorder start date for the Switch 2 in the US.
In its announcement, Nintendo stated that the Switch 2 will maintain its $449.99 price despite concerns over potential price hikes due to the Trump administration’s tariff policies. However, accessory prices have increased: Joy-Con controllers, previously $89.99, are now $94.99; the Pro Controller has risen from $79.99 to $84.99; and the Switch 2 camera has increased from $49.99 to $54.99.
Initially planned for April 9, preorders were postponed following the tariff announcement.
Nintendo delayed preorders to evaluate the impact of tariffs and market conditions, while confirming the Switch 2’s June 5 launch remains on schedule.
On April 8, Nintendo also announced a delay in Canadian preorders to align with the US, allowing Canada to begin preorders on April 24 as well.
The updated preorder date follows President Trump’s April 9 announcement of a 90-day tariff pause for countries excluding China.

During its major Switch 2 reveal event, Nintendo announced the console’s $449.99 price, with a $499.99 bundle including Mario Kart World. The company confirmed that the Mario Kart World bundle, along with Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananaza ($69.99), will retain their original prices.
The Switch 2 offers significant upgrades over its predecessor, featuring a 7.9-inch LCD screen, larger Joy-Con controllers, and more. Alongside Mario Kart World, Nintendo unveiled Donkey Kong Bananaza, a new 3D Donkey Kong title set for release on July 17.
The new preorder date comes after Sony increased PS5 prices in the EU, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, citing a tough economic climate.
Nintendo concluded its announcement with an apology: “We regret the preorder delay and hope this update provides clarity for our customers.”
