The US and Japan Government Join Forces to Strengthen Cyber Warfare
According to Japanese Minister of Finance Kōtsu Katayama, following a private meeting with OpenAI’s Chief Strategy Officer, the company has granted access to its latest GPT-5.5 Cyber model to select key Japanese financial institutions. This arrangement is the result of extensive discussions between the governments of Japan and the United States, with the goal of strengthening the overall cybersecurity posture and resilience of Japan’s financial sector by deploying state-of-the-art defensive AI tools in advance.
Multiple Models Working Together to Build a Security Defense Line
Industry sources indicate that Japan’s three largest banking groups—Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Mizuho Bank—are likely to be among the first organizations to gain access to this new model. Furthermore, in an effort to mitigate potential systemic risks within the financial industry, the Japanese government plans to incorporate the Claude Mythos model from Anthropic later on, aiming to create a robust, unified cybersecurity defense framework through coordinated use of multiple AI systems by both governments and private enterprises.
