Musk Says 99% of SpaceX\'s Value Will Come From AI Rockets, Space Exploration Becomes Side Business

SpaceX has shared a video of Elon Musk’s recent address to staff. As he traced the company’s progress, he laid out for the first time the three core pillars of Starship, Starlink, and AI, with artificial intelligence taking center stage. Musk emphasized that SpaceX must excel in both AI hardware and software, predicting that “the future belongs to AI and robots; digital intelligence will ultimately dwarf biological intelligence.”
Musk backed this vision with specific targets, noting that “AI revenue could surpass the combined earnings from rockets, spacecraft, and Starlink by September,” with even stronger results expected in Q4. He projected that AI will represent roughly 99% of SpaceX’s total value within five years, arguing that humanity requires AI systems designed to support human progress—a mission that compels SpaceX to compete directly in the AI sector.
10GW Computing Ambition: AI Revenue Nears $2.6 Billion
This outlook is driven by SpaceX’s rapidly scaling AI infrastructure. Musk announced plans to reach 10 gigawatts of AI computing capacity by next year, a sevenfold increase from the current 1.4 gigawatts. These resources are currently leased to tech firms and AI labs. Musk estimates that hitting this target could generate $300 billion to $500 billion in annual revenue, describing it as “a massive figure.”
SpaceX’s Q2 financials highlight this shift: total revenue hit $7.8 billion, up 92% year-over-year, with AI services contributing nearly $2.6 billion—a 247% surge. Starlink generated $4.3 billion, up 66%, while traditional aerospace brought in $962 million, now the smallest segment. Net losses narrowed to $541 million, and adjusted EBITDA rose 191% to $3.5 billion. As SpaceX transitions from a rocket manufacturer to an AI infrastructure leader, Musk’s five-year vision of AI-driven valuation is becoming financially tangible.
