Microsoft Increases Xbox Console Prices in the United States

Microsoft is increasing prices for its Xbox Series S and X consoles in the US starting next month. Beginning October 3rd, the Xbox Series X will rise to $649.99 from its current $599.99, while the Xbox Series S will move to $399.99 from $379.99.
Microsoft attributes the price adjustments to "changes in the macroeconomic environment," which is essentially a reference to tariffs. Console pricing outside the US will remain unchanged, and prices for Xbox controllers and headsets in the US will stay the same.
These increases mean the Xbox Series S will go up by $20, the Xbox Series X by $50, and the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X will increase by $70, reaching $799.99.
Here's a complete breakdown of the new US pricing:
Product New US price (RRP) Previous US price (RRP) Xbox Series S (512GB) $399.99 $379.99 Xbox Series S (1TB) $449.99 $429.99 Xbox Series X $649.99 $599.99 Xbox Series X Digital $599.99 $549.99 Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition $799.99 $729.99
Microsoft previously raised prices globally in May, increasing costs for Xbox Series S/X consoles, controllers, and headsets. That earlier adjustment had already pushed the Xbox Series X up by $100 and the Series S by $80. Combined with the latest announcement, the Series X has seen a $150 increase and the Series S a $100 increase in just six months.
The Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition launched less than a year ago at $599.99 and will now reach $799.99—a $200 increase in only a year. This marks Microsoft's second round of price increases for 2023.
Microsoft had also intended to raise prices for select first-party Xbox games to $80 this holiday season but reversed that decision in July.

Another price hike? Just when I was saving up for a Series X... Guess I'll stick with my old Xbox One a bit longer. It's getting harder to justify these console costs with Game Pass prices also creeping up. Maybe they're trying to push more people towards the All-Digital edition? 🤔
