Microsoft Alters Xbox Controller Support in Windows 11
Microsoft is testing a new functionality for Xbox controllers on Windows 11, enabling quick access to Task View for switching between apps and games using the Xbox button.
“With the latest update, a long press of the Xbox button will launch Task View,” says Microsoft's Windows Insider team. “Holding the Xbox button down still powers down the controller as before.”

Future Xbox Ally hardware will use the Xbox button to open a task switcher designed for portable use via a long press. While Microsoft has updated the task switcher on handhelds with fresh animations, it's not yet confirmed if this same experience will roll out to all Windows 11 gaming PCs.
Currently, a single press of the Xbox button—whether on handhelds or controllers—opens the Game Bar in Windows 11, giving access to widgets, games, and performance stats. The feature is now being tested with Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel and is expected to reach all Windows 11 users in the near future.
