Meta AI App to Introduce Premium Tier and Ads

Meta's AI app may soon feature a paid subscription, mirroring offerings from competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. During a Q1 2025 earnings call, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined plans for a premium service, enabling users to access enhanced computing power or additional features in Meta AI.
To rival ChatGPT, Meta launched a standalone AI app this week, allowing direct interaction with the chatbot and image generation. The chatbot, now boasting nearly 1 billion users, was previously integrated into apps like Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
Competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot provide paid subscriptions for advanced capabilities and computing resources. Meta reported $42 billion in revenue recently and now anticipates investing up to $72 billion in AI, up from the previously projected $65 billion.
Zuckerberg also hinted at integrating product recommendations or ads into Meta AI. While no timeline for ads or the paid tier was confirmed, he noted that Meta will focus on scaling and boosting engagement for at least the next year before prioritizing monetization.
