Major Gemini Upgrade Now Free for All Android Phones, Including Samsung Models
A nifty feature from Google called Gemini, which was initially exclusive to a handful of devices just a few months back, is now rolling out to a broader audience of free users. Now, not only are more users getting a taste of this tech, but select Samsung phones are also tapping into Gemini Live's multimodal capabilities. This means users can now point their phone's camera at objects and have a chat with Gemini about them.

The "Talk Live about" feature is a game-changer, letting you show Gemini what's on your screen and engage in a live conversation about it. Whether it's files, images, or YouTube videos, Gemini can now dive in and discuss them with you. This feature first saw the light of day back in January, exclusively for the Pixel 9 series and the Galaxy S24 and S25. It expanded with the March Pixel Drop to include the Pixel 6 and newer models, and now it's making its way to even older devices.
How 'Talk Live about' Works
Want to try out Gemini's new tool? Here's how:
- Open the Gemini app, or if you've got "Hey Google" enabled, just use that.
- Snap a photo or upload a file or photo using the "+" button. You can upload TXT, DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, and HWP files.
- Select your files from Drive, Gallery, or Files. You'll spot a "Talk live about this" button. Give it a tap, and Gemini will start analyzing what's on your screen.
- Once Gemini's done its thing, you can start firing off your questions.

By default, Gemini Live is all about voice-only chats. But this new feature brings its multimodal capabilities into play, giving the AI more context to work with.
You can ask Gemini to sum up a document, identify something in a photo, delve into specifics in a file, or even get the gist of a YouTube video. There's a lot you can do!
Also: Gemini Live is expanding and can now chat about what's on your screen
To chat about a YouTube video, just open the Gemini overlay while the video's playing or paste the video link right into the Gemini app. "Talk live about" works with any YouTube video shorter than two hours, pulling info from the video's closed captions.
Chatting with Gemini about an image or video only gives it a peek at what's on your screen, but when you're discussing a file, Gemini gets to see the whole thing. You could already talk to Gemini about these things before, but it was all text-based. The beauty of "Talk Live about" is that it lets you have these conversations without ever touching your keyboard.
Gemini Live with Real-Time Video Analysis
And there's more! Alongside these updates, certain Samsung models are getting the ability to use Gemini Live directly from their camera viewfinder. This means you can point at something in real-time and ask Gemini questions about it. Whether it's checking if a dish fits your diet or getting outfit suggestions from your wardrobe, Gemini's got you covered.
This exciting new feature will roll out first as a free update for the Galaxy S25 models, including the standard, Plus, and Ultra versions.

No puedo quejarme demasiado, ¿verdad? 🤷♂️😊
