Jira's Latest Update Enables AI Agents and Humans to Collaborate

Enterprise software leader Atlassian is introducing a new approach to human-AI collaboration, aiming to help teams achieve "10x the output without 10x the chaos."

Atlassian unveiled "agents in Jira" on Wednesday. This enhancement allows users of its Jira project management platform to assign and oversee tasks for their AI agents directly from the same dashboard used for human team members.

With agents in Jira, organizations can delegate tasks and tickets to AI agents just like they would to people. The system tracks progress, manages deadlines, and monitors other key metrics. Users can also integrate AI agents into ongoing projects seamlessly.

This feature is currently available in open beta.

The update is designed to provide the same level of visibility into AI agent activities as for human employees, explained Tamar Yehoshua, Atlassian's new Chief Product and AI Officer, in an interview with TechCrunch.

"Atlassian has built collaboration software for decades to help people get work done," Yehoshua said. "Now, with the rise of AI agents performing much of that work, coordinating effectively between humans and agents becomes essential."

However, Atlassian recognizes that simply offering more automation options doesn't automatically reduce workload, Yehoshua noted. The core value of this update, she emphasized, is centralizing all management within a single, unified dashboard.

This announcement is just the first step, Yehoshua stated, as Atlassian plans to integrate more AI capabilities across its software suite.
