Imagen 4 is Google’s newest AI image generator
Google has just unveiled its latest image-generating AI model, Imagen 4, promising users an even better visual experience than its predecessor, Imagen 3. Announced at Google I/O 2025 earlier this week, this new model is being hailed as a major leap forward in terms of quality and versatility. According to Google, Imagen 4 excels at rendering intricate details such as fabrics, water droplets, and animal fur, while also handling both realistic and abstract styles with ease. The output can reach resolutions up to 2K and comes in various aspect ratios, making it highly adaptable to different needs.
Josh Woodward, who heads Google’s Labs group, emphasized during a press conference that significant improvements have been made in how Imagen 4 processes text and layout elements. “This makes it ideal for projects involving a mix of visuals and written content, whether it’s designing slides, invitations, or anything else,” he explained. While there are plenty of competitors in the AI-generated art space—such as ChatGPT’s tool or MidJourney’s V7—what sets Imagen 4 apart is its speed. Google claims that not only does it perform better, but it’s also significantly faster than its older sibling, Imagen 3. Plans are already underway to roll out a version of Imagen 4 that’s up to 10 times quicker than its current iteration.
As of today, Imagen 4 is live across several Google services including the Gemini app, Whisk, Vertex AI, Google Slides, Vids, Docs, and others within Google Workspace. A few examples showcasing its capabilities were shared during the event, demonstrating its ability to produce stunningly detailed images with ease.
