Health Goes Nationwide, Integrates with Apple Health and Electronic Medical Records, Interprets Physical Exam Report
OpenAI has today made the new Health feature available to all U.S. users aged 18 and older by removing the waitlist and rolling it out fully. Whether you're using the free, Go, Plus, or Pro tier, you can now enable this experience directly from the ChatGPT sidebar on both web and iOS platforms.
This demand has been building for some time. According to OpenAI's internal data, the number of users asking health and wellness-related questions on ChatGPT has grown from 230 million in earlier stages to over 300 million. Through several months of testing and feedback, the health experience has undergone multiple upgrades: the system can now connect with Apple Health, and read electronic medical records from One Medical, Function Health, and several hospital networks across the U.S.

After user authorization, ChatGPT can combine data such as medications, lab results, medical records, sleep, and daily exercise to analyze and deliver truly personalized health answers. For example, it can compare your latest lab results with previous ones, summarize physical changes since your last visit, or assess how sleep and exercise affect your daily condition.
Interestingly, during early testing, OpenAI found that many people didn't always ask questions within the dedicated health section. As a result, ChatGPT now supports using health data outside that area: users can either type "@Health" to explicitly bring in the health context, or authorize ChatGPT to refer to personal health background when answering everyday questions. This means it can automatically avoid dietary restrictions when recommending meals, or skip recent injury areas when planning physical activities. By default, the system will always ask for permission before accessing linked health data, and users can choose either single-use authorization or permanent permission.
On the privacy front, OpenAI made it clear in its official statement: all medical records, Apple Health data, and conversation content generated using this data will not be used to train large language models or for targeted advertising. Bringing your medical records to a chatbot for reading has raised both the bar and the trust factor — and those are now squarely on the table.
