HBO Finds Its Young Leads for Harry Potter Series

HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series will introduce audiences to a fresh ensemble of young actors entrusted with saving the wizarding world.
Today, HBO revealed that newcomers Dominic McLaughlin (Grow), Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast in the new J.K. Rowling-produced Harry Potter series. McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry, Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Stout will portray Ron Weasley. In a statement about the casting, Harry Potter showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director/executive producer Mark Mylod expressed their excitement at having finally discovered their leads after what they described as an "extraordinary search," during which tens of thousands of children auditioned.
"The talent of these three remarkable actors is a joy to witness, and we are thrilled for audiences to experience their on-screen chemistry and magic," Gardiner and Mylod said. "It has been a genuine delight to uncover the wealth of young talent out there."
Previously, HBO confirmed that John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon, and Paul Whitehouse have joined the new Harry Potter series as Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape, Rubeus Hagrid, and Quirinus Quirrell. While a few other key characters from the books remain to be cast, the announcement of the central trio marks another step forward in HBO’s vision for another decade of Harry Potter excitement becoming a reality.
