Google Unveils AI-Powered Simplify Tool for Easier Web Reading
Google’s iOS app now includes a “Simplify” feature, leveraging AI to transform complex web text into clear, understandable content without leaving the page.
The Simplify tool, developed by Google Research, uses Gemini to rephrase intricate text while preserving essential details. Testing shows it enhances comprehension and retention of information.
With Simplify, Google aims to keep users within its ecosystem for tackling complex topics, reducing reliance on external tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
To use Simplify, select text on a webpage in the Google app and tap the “Simplify” icon. A clearer version of the text appears, making it easier to process and continue reading.

For instance, a dense passage like: “The complex pathology of this condition involves emphysematous destruction of lung parenchyma, diffuse interstitial fibrosis, changes in the composition of lung immune cells, increased production of immunomodulatory factors, and the prominent remodeling of pulmonary vasculature”
is rewritten as: This condition damages lung tissue through emphysema, a disease affecting air sacs, and causes widespread lung scarring, known as fibrosis. Lung immune cells shift, the body produces more immune-regulating substances, and lung blood vessels undergo significant changes.
Google designed Simplify to help users better understand complex subjects encountered while exploring new topics online.
