Following a recent ruling by the U.S. Southern District Bankruptcy Court, Google has successfully acquired key corporate assets from the defunct budget carrier Spirit Airlines for $10 million. In a competitive bidding war, Google outmaneuvered Mercor, an AI-focused recruitment firm, which had proposed a lower bid of $7.5 million.
The acquired dataset is extensive and varied, comprising 7.5 billion passenger transaction logs dating back to 2008, 7.2 billion records of competitive flight pricing, 500 million Microsoft Teams collaboration entries, 100 million emails, 30 million lines of source code, and over 175,000 employee files from as far back as 1986, alongside other critical business information.
To uphold data compliance and privacy standards, a third-party agency will rigorously anonymize the dataset prior to transfer, ensuring no personal or confidential information is included. A Google representative confirmed that these processed assets will be leveraged to enhance the company’s product suite and artificial intelligence capabilities.
