In recent months, Figma partnered with OpenAI and Anthropic to integrate support for AI CLI tools such as Claude Code and Codex, enabling users to use those coding environments alongside its design software. Now, Figma is embedding its own AI capabilities through a new agent that operates within its collaborative canvas.
Figma stated that users can use natural language prompts to instruct the new AI agent to create fresh designs, modify existing ones, or automate tasks like generating design variations. Users can also launch multiple agents to handle different tasks at the same time.
The company asserts that the AI assistant comprehends design contexts and elements because it operates on models fine-tuned specifically for design.
"As building software becomes easier, what matters most is setting direction: deciding what to work on, how it should function, and what the user experience should feel like. Teams can now collaborate with agents on the multiplayer canvas to test ideas, visualize edge cases, and refine concepts together without getting bogged down in the more tedious parts," said Figma's chief design officer, Loredana Crisan, in a statement.
The agent is launching first in Figma Design, with plans to eventually roll it out across other products. Figma stated that it aims to bring design and code closer together within its apps over time.
Facing fierce competition from rivals such as Canva, Adobe, Flora, Krea, and Dessn, Figma acquired the node-based design tool Weavy last year and added new image editing capabilities to its products.
Despite concerns that AI might reduce demand for designers and the software they use, Figma has performed well. In the first quarter of 2026, the company reported revenue of $333.4 million, up 46% from the same period a year earlier.
