Xiaohongshu Mandates Clear Labeling for AI-Generated Content, Unlabeled Posts to Lose Visibility
In response to recent widespread misuse of AI technology online, Xiaohongshu's platform governance team, Shu Guanjia, issued an official announcement yesterday. It formally mandates that creators must proactively label AI-generated or AI-synthesized content published on the platform.

The announcement states that the platform has received numerous reports of AI technology being used to mimic the likeness of public figures and produce fabricated videos. Such content not only violates the legitimate rights of individuals but also misleads viewers and erodes community trust when it is not clearly identified as AI-generated.
Core points of the new regulations include:
Mandatory Disclosure: In compliance with relevant laws and regulations, creators are required to actively make a declaration when posting any content involving AI-generated or synthesized material.
Algorithmic Oversight: The platform will employ detection tools to identify content suspected of being AI-generated. If a creator fails to make the required disclosure, the platform will automatically add an AI label and enforce distribution limits (traffic restrictions) as a penalty.
Strict Enforcement: For serious violations—such as creating deceptive impersonations, maliciously "editing" classic works, promoting negative values, or sharing tutorials on how to remove AI labels—the platform will implement severe measures, including account suspension.
This move represents a significant step by Xiaohongshu to enhance its AI identification and governance framework. The goal is to uphold content authenticity and compliance within the community amidst the rapid growth of AI-assisted creation.
