HomeChatGPT users have generated over 700M images since last week, OpenAI says
OpenAI's latest image-generation tool is shaping up to be one of their most successful product launches yet. Brad Lightcap, who manages OpenAI's daily operations and global rollout, shared that since the upgraded image generator debuted in ChatGPT on March 25, over 130 million users have created more than 700 million images.
In a post on X on Thursday, Lightcap expressed gratitude for users' patience as the team works tirelessly to meet everyone's needs. He noted, "We appreciate your patience as we try to serve everyone. The team continues to work around the clock."
Interestingly, Lightcap also mentioned that India is currently the fastest-growing market for ChatGPT.
The new image generator, which became available to all ChatGPT users earlier this week, has gone viral, especially for its ability to produce realistic Ghibli-style images. While this feature has attracted millions of new users to ChatGPT, it's also put a significant strain on OpenAI's resources.
CEO Sam Altman acknowledged that the surge in popularity of the image generator has caused delays in other product developments and temporarily impacted service quality. OpenAI is now working hard to expand its infrastructure to keep up with the demand.
