ChatGPT unveils $100 monthly Pro subscription

OpenAI revealed on Thursday a $100/month subscription that power users have long requested. Previously, the pricing tiers were: a free option (now with ads), an $8/month Go plan (also with ads), a $20/month Plus plan (ad-free), and up to a $200 Pro plan (also ad-free).
OpenAI's pricing page currently does not show a $200/month option. However, the company confirmed to TechCrunch that the highest tier remains available.
The company states that the Plus plan (still $20/month) and the new $100 Pro tier are designed to support daily use of ChatGPT's coding tool, Codex. The $100 Pro plan provides 5 times more Codex capacity than the Plus plan.
OpenAI is clear that the new pricing tier aims to compete with Anthropic, which has offered a $100/month option for Claude for some time.
An OpenAI spokesperson told TechCrunch: "The new $100 Pro tier is built to provide developers with more practical coding capacity for their investment, especially during high-intensity work sessions where usage limits are critical. Compared to Claude Code, Codex offers more coding capacity per dollar across all paid tiers, with the most noticeable difference during active coding."
One important note: OpenAI is offering even higher Codex limits on the $100 plan until May 31. So if you try the new tier, go heavy on coding, and never receive a rate limit warning, be aware that this situation probably won't continue.
None of the plans provide unlimited usage. However, the $200 plan offers 20 times higher limits than Plus. The company promises in its FAQ that this is sufficient to support "your most demanding workflows continuously, even across parallel projects." Both Pro plans include the same core features. The main difference, according to the company, lies in the rate limits.
The spokesperson also stated that over 3 million people worldwide use Codex each week, "up 5 times in the past three months, with usage growing more than 70% month over month."
