On June 22, ByteDance’s AI assistant, Dou Bao APP , launched a limited rollout of its ride-hailing feature in Beijing and Hangzhou. This move signals a shift for large language models from virtual interaction to tangible services, positioning them as critical tools for tech giants vying for control over local life digital traffic.
During this internal trial, Dou Bao introduced a streamlined travel booking process driven by natural language. Users can simply describe their trip requirements directly within the Dou Bao chat interface without switching apps or downloading external software. The AI accurately extracts key details such as pickup location, destination, passenger count, and vehicle preferences, then instantly calculates the route and fare for one-click confirmation.
Powered exclusively by Cao Cao Travel , this service integrates directly into Dou Bao’s dedicated order channel. To encourage driver participation, Cao Cao Travel offers a 2-yuan subsidy per accepted ride. By leveraging a lightweight asset model through ecosystem partnerships, ByteDance aims to surpass the user engagement limits of standard chat applications by tapping into high-frequency travel needs, thereby accelerating the commercial viability of AI agents.
