ByteDance’s 50,000 AI Chip Buy Signals New Era for Domestic GPU Industry

As the user base of AI large models continues to expand, the self-reliance and controllability of computing infrastructure has become a strategic focus for major technology companies. On June 15, it was reported that ByteDance is currently in deep discussions with domestic high-performance computing manufacturer Tianshi Zhixin, planning to make a large-scale purchase of AI chips.
According to current information, the scale of this purchase is expected to reach 50,000 chips. After delivery, these chips will be mainly deployed in inference task scenarios, providing strong computing power support for the continuous iteration and user growth of ByteDance's AI chatbot "Doubao."
For Tianshi Zhixin, if the two parties can ultimately reach an agreement, it would be a milestone step in its development. Previously, the company's business focus was mostly concentrated in government procurement and other areas. If it successfully enters ByteDance's core supply chain, it would mean that its products have received strong industry endorsement in terms of commercial application and large-scale cluster deployment capabilities.
In the supplier landscape, if the cooperation is successfully implemented, Tianshi Zhixin is expected to become the third major domestic GPU main supplier for ByteDance, following Huawei and Cambricon. This move not only further optimizes ByteDance's diversified layout in computing infrastructure but also indirectly proves that domestic GPUs have gradually reached commercial standards in high-performance inference tasks.
Currently, specific details of the purchase are still under further communication. This development also reflects that leading internet companies in China are accelerating the construction of a computing system centered on domestic chips to meet increasingly complex AI application needs.
