Apple Music to Label AI-Generated Content as Music Platforms Tackle AI Spam

Starting in late 2026, Apple Music will mandate AI transparency labels for content providers, transitioning from a voluntary disclosure system to strict enforcement. Since introducing these labels in March 2026, Apple has focused on providing listeners with comprehensive information, even if the labels are not yet visible to the public.
This policy shift aims to curb the misuse of AI-generated music. Apple has deployed internal tools to monitor streaming activity, detect AI tracks, identify spam, and prevent identity theft, while removing songs that artificially inflate play counts. In 2025, the company redistributed royalties from approximately 200 million manipulated streams back to the pool for legitimate artists and record labels.
According to Apple executive Oliver Schusser, over a third of songs uploaded to Apple Music are entirely AI-generated, yet they account for less than 0.5% of actual listens. This highlights a significant gap between the rapid growth in AI music supply and limited real user engagement.
Competitors are also tightening regulations. Deezer has used an AI detection system for over a year, blocking roughly 60,000 AI tracks daily, many linked to fraud. Meanwhile, Spotify plans to introduce an "AI Persona" badge in mid-September 2026, allowing artists to voluntarily disclose AI usage while enabling platform intervention when necessary. As AI music expands, platforms are implementing stricter transparency measures covering content identification, identity verification, and traffic management.
