iOS 27 introduces a fundamental overhaul of Siri’s architecture, centered on a new standalone application that moves beyond traditional voice-only interactions.
Designed with a chatbot interface, the app allows users to type prompts for seamless AI conversations. It supports image and document uploads, preserves chat history, and simplifies complex, multi-step tasks.
Apple has adopted an open approach by allowing users to switch between its native Siri and third-party models like ChatGPT. By long-pressing the input field and selecting “Ask…”, users can choose the most suitable AI for their specific needs.
Currently in early development, the app includes protective measures such as resetting to Siri upon relaunch. There is no setting to permanently default to ChatGPT at this stage.
This standalone app marks a significant step for Apple, balancing ecosystem security with flexible AI integration. Future updates are expected to support more models, expanding user choice and productivity.
