Apple Revamps iPhone Control Center After User Feedback
My main issue with the Liquid Glass effect in the initial iOS 26 developer beta was how it occasionally rendered Control Center almost unreadable. However, Apple appears to have addressed this problem in the second beta, which was just released.
In the first beta, the translucent nature of the interface allowed a lot of the underlying screen content to show through, creating a noticeably cluttered appearance. The second beta introduces a much more opaque background behind Control Center, making everything far easier to read quickly.
See the difference for yourself in this comparison slider:

On the left is developer beta 1; developer beta 2 is on the right. While not a perfect comparison due to some changes in my home screen app layout, the overall improvement should still be clear. Screenshot by Jay Peters / The Verge and Image: AppleEven in the second developer beta, some background colors still subtly show through the Control Center buttons, which could be slightly disorienting. Generally speaking, though, I believe Apple is heading in the right direction. It will be interesting to see whether the company implements further refinements before the public launch this fall.
As 9to5Mac reported, this beta also brings a few other updates, including a fantastic new ringtone based on an alternate version of the Reflections tune. It has a distinctive sound that would fit right into an Ace Attorney game. I immediately changed my ringtone to it.
If you're interested in testing the developer beta yourself, check out our installation guide. For those who prefer a more stable experience but still want to preview Apple's upcoming features, a public beta is scheduled to launch next month.
