Anthropic's Super Bowl commercials, featuring darkly humorous scenarios where people turn to chatbots for advice only to be directed to "cougar" dating sites or height-boosting insoles, are proving effective. In the following days, Anthropic's AI assistant Claude has surged from the 41st spot to break into the top 10 on the U.S. App Store charts. As of Friday, Claude holds the No. 7 position—its highest rank ever—indicating its "ad-free" promise strongly resonates with users.
New data from market intelligence firm Appfigures reveals that Claude garnered an estimated 148,000 U.S. downloads across iOS and Android from Sunday through Tuesday—the latest available figures. This represents a 32% increase from the preceding three-day period (Thursday through Saturday), which saw approximately 112,000 downloads.

The figures suggest that Anthropic's Super Bowl ad campaign, combined with the recent launch of its new Claude 3.5 Opus model, successfully drew attention to the Claude app and its key distinction from ChatGPT. Notably, ChatGPT introduced ads for free users this very week, exactly as Anthropic's commercials had cautioned.
Consequently, the Claude app is attracting more interest now than it did upon its initial mobile launch.
