Anthropic Launches Claude Ruby Pricing, Targeting Indian Market
On July 13 , U.S. AI unicorn Anthropic launched localized Indian Rupee (INR) pricing for its Claude service in India, its second-largest global market, which represents 5.8% of its worldwide user base.
This update applies to both the official website and mobile app. With local taxes included, Claude Pro costs 2,000 rupees monthly (about $21 USD), while Claude Max starts at 11,999 rupees per month (around $125 USD). Team plans begin at 2,399 rupees per user per month (approximately $25 USD).

Users must currently pay via bank cards or through Apple and Google app stores, as UPI—the dominant real-time payment system in India—is not yet supported. Meanwhile, rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT already supports INR and UPI payments.

This pricing shift signals Anthropic’s deeper commitment to the Indian market. In January, the company appointed Irina Ghose, former Microsoft India general manager, to head its Indian operations, followed by the official launch of its Bangalore office in February. Recently, Anthropic has also partnered with major Indian IT firms like Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to expand enterprise AI adoption.
Despite raising concerns among local developers in June due to temporary restrictions on non-U.S. access to its Fable5 and Mythos5 models, this INR pricing rollout marks full acceleration of commercialization and monetization in this large, price-sensitive developer market.
