Amazon Unveils AI-Driven Personalized Shopping Prompts

Amazon's diving deeper into AI to boost your shopping spree, and they've just rolled out a cool new feature called "Interests." It's all about making your search experience more personal and chatty, you know? With Interests, you can pop in specific prompts into the search bar, like what you're into, what you like, and even how much you wanna spend. Say you're into building model kits as a hobbyist engineer, or you're a coffee fanatic looking for the latest brewing gadgets—you can ask for exactly that.
This feature uses fancy large language models (LLMs) to turn your everyday chit-chat into something the search engine can actually use, so you get product suggestions that really hit the mark. And it doesn't stop there—Interests keeps working behind the scenes, popping up notifications when new stuff that matches your vibe hits the shelves, and keeps you posted on restocks and sweet deals.
Right now, only a lucky few in the U.S. can play around with Interests through the Amazon Shopping app on their iOS or Android phones, or on the mobile site under the "Me" tab. But don't worry, Amazon's planning to let more U.S. folks in on the fun in the coming months.
This move is just Amazon's latest step in weaving AI into its app, joining a bunch of other AI-powered goodies like Rufus, their AI shopping assistant, AI Shopping Guides, quick review summaries, and AI-generated product info.
And it's not just Amazon—other companies are jumping on the AI bandwagon to make shopping smoother and more fun. Take Google, for example. They've spruced up their Shopping tab with a "Vision Match" tool where you can describe a piece of clothing you're dreaming of, and the AI will throw back some similar options. Plus, they've got an AI summary tool to give you the lowdown on products.

Interesting move by Amazon! While personalized prompts sound convenient, I can't help but wonder about the data privacy implications. Are our 'interests' being used just for shopping suggestions, or could they shape future pricing? The chatty search feels a bit like having a overly eager sales assistant following you around the store 😅. Still, if it actually cuts down my time searching for niche hobbies gear, I might give it a try.
This Interests feature sounds dope! Amazon’s AI is like a personal shopper that never sleeps, digging up stuff I didn’t even know I wanted. Kinda creepy how it knows my taste so well, though. 😅 Anyone else worried about privacy with this?
