The revised pricing affects core product lines including foundational computing cards and high-performance storage. Products like the Tenxun Zhenwu 810E computing cards saw price hikes ranging from 5% to 34%, while the CPFS (Intelligent Computing Edition) file storage solution, designed for AI scenarios, increased by 30%. Alibaba Cloud attributes these changes primarily to rising global demand for AI and the consequent increase in supply chain costs.
A significant driver behind this move is the exponential growth in Token usage. Data indicates that Alibaba Cloud's Model as a Service (MaaS) platform, "Bailian," recorded its highest-ever growth rate during the first quarter of this year. Consequently, Alibaba Cloud is strategically directing its scarce AI computing resources toward the Token business to prioritize the needs of large model inference and application development.
From an industry-wide perspective, as generative AI transitions from research and development to widespread deployment, the scarcity of computing resources is cascading from upstream chip manufacturers to downstream cloud service providers. Alibaba Cloud's pricing strategy not only reflects the current tight supply-demand balance for computing power but also demonstrates how cloud vendors are using price adjustments to optimize resource allocation and manage the challenges of high concurrency and rapid growth in model API calls.
