Alibaba Unveils Qoder, Evolving AI Coding Tool Into a Universal Intelligent Agent Workstation
Alibaba officially unveiled the upgraded Qoder on August 27, transforming the original AI programming IDE into an "intelligent agent workspace" that prioritizes coding capabilities and is accessible to all. Users simply describe their objectives in natural language, and Qoder handles context understanding, planning, tool invocation, execution, and verification. The entire workflow remains transparent, allowing users to monitor, adjust, or take control at any stage.

Since its global launch in August 2025, Qoder IDE has attracted over 6 million users and serves more than 100,000 enterprises. This new iteration reflects three fundamental shifts in collaboration: work objects have evolved from "code engineering" to "intelligent agent tasks," workflows have transitioned from "personal production" to "delegation and acceptance," and the user base has expanded beyond professional developers to include product managers, operations staff, and data analysts.
Under the hood, the new Qoder leverages the Harness long-chain execution platform to enable an autonomous closed loop of "read—modify—verify—iterate." Key features include cross-file editing, test execution, self-correction based on real-time results, cross-session long-term memory, and periodic skill refinement. Security is enhanced through hierarchical permissions and tool whitelisting, requiring explicit authorization for sensitive operations. On the model side, it integrates top-tier domestic and international models, with deep optimization for the Qwen series and an Auto intelligent routing system that balances performance, speed, and cost.

The platform offers two distinct entry points: a programming mode for developers and a general mode for non-technical users, enabling tasks like prototyping, data management, and troubleshooting without writing code. By integrating 40+ connectors, 70+ plugins, and 20K+ skills, Qoder links code repositories, project management tools, cloud services, and internal systems. It also supports Browser Use and Computer Use for interacting with live web pages and desktops. The updated interface features a desktop resident mode and voice activation, shifting the interaction model from "you drive it" to "it reminds you."
From now until 10:00 AM on September 1, individual users can claim 5 days of 2,500 Qwen Credits, while enterprise users can enjoy a 50% discount on the Qwen3.8 series. The international version (qoder.com) and the Chinese version (qoder.cn) are now available simultaneously.
