Adobe Unveils Subscription Options for Firefly AI
Adobe is making a big move with its Firefly AI models, launching a new standalone subscription service aimed at tapping into the early buzz around its AI capabilities. This service will give users access to Adobe's AI tools for generating images, vectors, and now, videos.
This is Adobe's most ambitious effort yet to transform Firefly from a promising tech into a solid product that people are willing to pay for.
Alongside this, Adobe is unveiling a revamped website at firefly.adobe.com, where folks can dive into the company's AI offerings. This includes the newly introduced Firefly AI video model, which is now available in public beta on the Firefly site and within the Premiere Pro Beta app.

The Standard plan for Firefly is priced at $9.99 per month and offers unlimited access to Adobe's AI features for images and vectors, plus the new video model. Subscribers get 2,000 credits, enough to create 20 five-second AI videos. What's more, users can link their Firefly plans to their Creative Cloud accounts, unlocking unlimited AI image and vector generation in apps like Photoshop and Express.
For those needing more, the Pro plan costs $29.99 monthly and provides enough credits to generate 70 five-second AI videos. Adobe is also teasing a "Premium" tier, though pricing hasn't been revealed yet. According to Alexandru Costin, Adobe's VP of Generative AI, this top-tier plan will allow for the creation of 500 AI videos per month.

Previously, Adobe included many of Firefly's AI tools in its Creative Cloud subscriptions at no extra cost. Users could opt for more access by upgrading to higher plans, but it wasn't mandatory. This approach paid off, with Firefly's generative fill feature in Photoshop becoming a hit since its 2023 release.
Now, Adobe is keen to see if users will directly pay for its Firefly AI models. The Firefly video model turns text or images into five-second AI-generated videos, with customizable options like camera angles, movements, and aspect ratios, catering to the needs of creative professionals.
Adobe's new Firefly offerings will go head-to-head with competitors like OpenAI's Sora, Runway's Gen-3 Alpha, and others with their own subscription models. Google DeepMind's Veo, still in private beta, is another strong contender in the AI video space.
Adobe's unique selling point to creatives is that Firefly was trained on a dataset of licensed videos, free from brand logos or NSFW content. This, Adobe claims, ensures that users can safely use Firefly without legal worries.

“We think the key differentiator for us is that we’re the only IP-friendly, commercially-safe video model,” Costin told TechCrunch. “We want to differentiate with deep understanding of customer problems.”
Adobe isn't just about flashy AI videos; they're focusing on practical tools for creatives. For instance, Firefly's Generative Extend feature lets users seamlessly extend video clips and background noise by a few seconds—a handy tool for real-world applications. And Adobe is working on another pre-production tool, not yet announced, that will help creatives visualize scenes before shooting.
However, Adobe must tread carefully. The rise of generative AI has sparked concerns among long-time users who fear their jobs might be automated away by these very technologies. Yet, Adobe remains committed to pushing forward in this direction, believing it's the future of creativity.

Adobe's Firefly AI subscription sounds like a game-changer for creators! I'm curious how it stacks up against Midjourney or DALL-E for video generation. Anyone tried it yet? 🤔
Adobe's Firefly AI subscription sounds like a game-changer! I'm excited to try the video generation feature, but $9.99/month for just 20 short clips feels a bit steep. Hope they add more credits soon! 😎
