3 New Productivity Hacks with Gemini for Google Workspace
Gemini for Google Workspace is a game-changer, helping individuals and businesses make the most out of their Google apps. Whether it's drafting emails in Gmail or organizing project plans in Sheets, over the past year, more than a million people and tens of thousands of companies have relied on generative AI in Workspace to give them that extra boost or spark of inspiration.
Today, we're excited to share some new ways Gemini for Google Workspace can help you achieve more in your personal and professional life. Gemini in the Workspace side panel is now powered by Gemini 1.5 Pro and is reaching more users. Plus, we're rolling out new features for Gemini in Gmail on mobile and expanding language support for Help me write in Docs and Gmail.
Access Gemini 1.5 Pro in the side panel of Workspace apps
As of today, Gemini in the side panel of Gmail, Docs, Drive, Slides, and Sheets is using Gemini 1.5 Pro. This upgrade means it can handle a longer context window and offer more advanced reasoning, allowing it to answer a broader range of questions and provide more insightful responses. Plus, getting started is a breeze with summaries, suggested prompts, and more right there in the side panel.
Thanks to the extended context window, Gemini can now reference much larger data sets. Imagine you're swamped with emails from your kid's school. With Gemini in the Gmail side panel, you can simply ask it to "summarize the emails from Maywood Park Elementary School" and instantly get the key details and action items. Planning a family reunion? Just type @ in the Gmail side panel to find the relevant document in your Drive, then ask Gemini for the hotel name and the sales manager's contact info. It's a snap to insert those details into an email, so your family has all the info they need.
Gemini in the Workspace side panel is now available for Workspace Labs and Gemini for Workspace Alpha users. Next month, it'll be accessible on desktop for businesses and consumers through Gemini for Workspace add-ons and the Google One AI Premium plan.

Try new Gemini for Workspace features in the Gmail mobile app
We're also launching some cool new features in the Gmail mobile app to help you stay productive while you're on the move.
- Summarize emails: Long email threads can be a drag, especially on a small screen. Gemini can now analyze these threads and give you a quick summary right in the Gmail app. Just hit the summarize button at the top of your email thread to get the gist. This feature is rolling out to Workspace Labs users this month and will be available to all Gemini for Workspace customers and Google One AI Premium subscribers next month.
- Contextual Smart Reply: For years, Gmail's Smart Reply has saved us time with suggested responses. Now, with Gemini in Gmail, you'll get even more detailed and nuanced replies based on the context of your email thread. With Contextual Smart Reply, you can tweak the response or send it as-is. This will be available to Workspace Labs users on mobile and web starting in July.
- Gmail Q&A: Soon, when you tap the new Gemini icon in the mobile app, you'll see helpful options like "summarize this email," "list the next steps," or "suggest a reply." Just like on the desktop side panel, you can use the open prompt box for more specific requests. Need to find a roofing contractor's bid buried in your inbox? Ask Gemini. Or, instead of digging through your Drive for your book club details, just ask Gemini, "What are the discussion questions for my upcoming book club meeting?" Gmail Q&A will be available to Workspace Labs users on mobile and web starting in July.

Use Help me write in more languages
We recently introduced Translate for me in Google Meet, which automatically detects and provides real-time translated captions in over 60 languages to bridge communication gaps. Now, we're expanding language support for more Gemini for Workspace features. In the coming weeks, Help me write in Gmail and Docs will support Spanish and Portuguese on desktop. We'll keep adding more languages over time.
To start using these features and other newly announced capabilities for the Gemini web and mobile apps, check out the Gemini for Workspace add-ons for business customers and the Google One AI Premium plan for consumers.
