Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart for 7 billion dollars. The three-year-old startup, founded in 2023, offers cross-chip compatibility software that allows AI models to run seamlessly across different hardware like NVIDIA GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon Trainium. This technology aims to reduce costs and improve performance by up to eight times. Decart previously failed to secure deals with NVIDIA and Anthropic, both of whom left the table after due diligence. Amazon is paying a significant premium compared to Decart's recent 4 billion dollar valuation, aiming to strengthen its AWS ecosystem and lower per-token costs for its Trainium chips while supporting its broader cloud and embodied intelligence strategies.
