McAfee Labs research reveals that AI can determine photo shooting locations even without GPS or location tags, identifying sites in 87% to 91% of tested cases by analyzing building styles, road markings, vegetation, and other visual elements. Existing tools can infer location from such details when no metadata is present. Criminals are exploiting this capability to launch highly targeted fraud attacks, sending fake bank security alerts based on the exposed locations shown in shared vacation photos, increasing the risk due to the accuracy of the messages. Users are advised to avoid real-time posting, limit post visibility, and check image content for location clues before sharing.
