Google has asked news publishers in its pilot program to share AI-driven article summaries and grant broad content usage rights, including for training AI models. Non-compliance would mean termination of existing deals and loss of annual fees. Separately, a U.S. consortium of nearly 400 newspapers filed a copyright lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. The European Commission has also launched an antitrust investigation into Google’s use of media content.
