Google launched an open AI shopping standard, the Universal Commerce Protocol, with partners including Shopify and Walmart. It enables AI agents to manage processes from product discovery to checkout and post-purchase support. Google will implement UCP in its AI search and Gemini apps, allowing direct purchases from U.S. retailers using Google Pay.
