YouTube Tests AI-Powered Search Feature with Guided Answers
Many users turn to YouTube when searching for recipes or travel plans, looking for relevant videos. Now, the platform is introducing an AI-powered interactive search tool that delivers step-by-step results, blending text and video content.
With the new “Ask YouTube” feature, users can ask questions like “plan a 3-day road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara” and receive step-by-step results that combine text, short clips, and longer videos—rather than only video results. YouTube says it will show videos and relevant segments along with titles and channel info to help users discover new creators.

Additionally, users can ask follow-up questions such as “Where can I get good coffee?” and get suggestions in a similar format.
This feature is currently available to U.S. Premium subscribers aged 18 and older. (Interested users can opt in via this URL.) Google noted that it is also working on extending access to non-Premium users.

Google has been expanding its AI mode‑style search across multiple platforms beyond YouTube. The company first introduced AI mode last year, allowing users to ask multi‑part questions and follow‑ups. This year, it added side‑by‑side web browsing and product price exploration features to AI mode. Most recently, Google introduced Gemini’s Canvas feature for managing projects within AI mode last month.
With this new feature test on YouTube, Google may later explore surfacing different types of videos, along with sponsored content.
