YouTube Podcasts Unveil AI Breakthrough with Auto-Speed Adjustment
As streaming rivals ramp up video podcast content to capture Spotify and Apple Podcasts’ core audio listeners, YouTube unveiled new Premium features on Thursday. The update focuses on enhancing the listening experience through personalized discovery and hands-free controls.
Expanding its "Ask Music" tool to podcasts, YouTube now allows Premium users to skip endless searching. With one click, the AI generates tailored podcast lists based on preferred genres, current moods, or favorite shows.

To address inconsistent speech pacing, the update introduces "Auto Speed." Unlike fixed playback, this feature intelligently adjusts speed during slow segments or high-density information, ensuring a smoother, more efficient listening experience without compromising comprehension.
Also launched is "On-the-go Mode," designed for outdoor and commuting use. This minimalistic interface allows users to quickly skip, rewind, or switch episodes while running or multitasking, offering maximum convenience for background playback.
Official data shows that by April 2026, YouTube Premium users had logged over 800 million hours of podcast listening, with monthly active users surpassing 1 billion. The "Auto Speed" and "On-the-go Mode" are now available to Android Premium users, with iOS updates expected in the coming months.
