World's First AI Satellite Model Launches to Advance Sustainable Cities

Hong Kong Baptist University has reached a new milestone in aerospace technology. On February 12, 2026, the Hyperbola-3 Launch Vehicle successfully deployed the "HKBU One" satellite, along with seven others, into their planned orbits from a launch site near Yangjiang, Guangdong. This launch signifies more than just a technical success; it heralds the arrival of the world's first AI large-model satellite dedicated to urban sustainable development.
Key Innovations: The Convergence of AI and Remote Sensing
A World First: "HKBU One" is the pioneering AI large-model satellite built specifically to support sustainable urban growth, equipped with advanced intelligent sensing and onboard data processing.
Constellation Formation: The satellite will operate in tandem with the previously launched "Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Satellite," establishing Hong Kong's inaugural low Earth orbit satellite constellation.
Targeted Applications: Once operational, it will deliver high-precision geospatial data services for the Pearl River Delta and other major global cities, with applications in environmental monitoring, smart traffic management, and disaster response.
Space Capabilities: Advancing National Goals
Professor Luke Wu , President of HKBU, noted that this successful orbital deployment marks a significant achievement for the university in intelligent remote sensing. Moving forward, HKBU will actively support the national "14th Five-Year Plan", further integrating artificial intelligence with aerospace technology to provide "Hong Kong's expertise" for building sustainable smart cities in the Greater Bay Area.
